Notes from Jana's Garden: African Iris, a flower essence for blocked creativity
A few months back, I was ready to quit my business and give up on some new creative projects altogether.
I almost threw it all away in the trash! Talk about potential self-sabotage alert!
See, I was letting aspects of my shadow selves bully me with some pretty hopeless things like "climate change is going to kill us all, so why bother?"
Yeah, that’s a really sneaky limiting voice that took me down some gnarly rabbit holes… PLEASE don’t throw away your creativity by giving in to climate change despair! It’s not too late and your genius creativity is needed in co-creating this New Earth now more than ever.)
This includes almost quitting on the new website (coming in Fall 2022) and membership community (coming in Spring 2023) I am developing, which I can’t wait to share with you all! It’s shaping up really beautifully…
Luckily, my Higher Self guided me to a new flower ally that has been a CREATIVITY GAMECHANGER.
I’d love to introduce you to her, she is known as African Iris, also known by some as Fortnight Lily.
African Iris had been calling to me all Spring, for weeks and weeks, during walks in my neighborhood and from a plant in my garden. Inviting me to work with her medicine.
I finally made African Iris as a botanical remedy on Beltane during the New Moon In Taurus + partial solar eclipse in May 2022.
I began to work with her all throughout this recent eclipse season and she has served as a steadfast guide when moving through the inevitable chaos, confusion and shadowy inner critics that come with creating something brand new. I’m so glad I listened to her steadfast invitation to work with her medicine!
(Sidenote, Russia waging war against the Ukraine triggered a lot of holocaust and persecution shadow patterns, especially on the Jewish side of my family. There was some serious ancestral muck to heal, feel, love and also set some internal boundaries around, as in not all of this healing is mine to do. Maybe you experienced this too?)

Irises as a flower family are all about enhancing creativity, and are wonderful essences for artists, writers, musicians, content creators, entrepreneurs, those in the healing arts, marketing professionals etc.
The way I see it creativity supports us in everything we are here to do - from how we parent our children to how we communicate with our partners.

Why is shadow-work and releasing judgement connected to enhanced creativity?
Often the worst blocks most creatives face when it comes to our own work is self-judgement and self-doubt.
These shadowy inner demons feed us fear-based false limiting beliefs like, “what I make isn’t good enough so why bother trying.”
Other false limiting beliefs that block our creativity and self-expression can include things such as:
I’m too old.
I’m too young.
I don’t have enough money.
I don’t have enough of a social media following.
I don’t have enough time.
Everyone else has already done this and I don’t have anything original to say.
If I share my truth, I will get bullied and ridiculed by cancel culture.
I’m not qualified enough.
I’m not healed enough, I’m too sick and don’t have enough energy. (Look, these myths aren’t true either. I built my entire business all while recovering from chronic fatigue, mystery illness and environmental toxicity. I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t easy, but I did and I am still doing it. If I can do it, anyone can.)
Or even that climate change despair example I gave above! (Oh that was a BIG limiting belief for me.)
None of these false limiting beliefs are true. They are our shadow selves aka our inner critic or inner demons talking. Our shadow selves can use ANYTHING as a limiting block. They get super sneaky, evolve alongside us, and know how to hit us exactly in our most vulnerable places. These voices can be paralyzing and stop us from doing the work that we were put here on the Earth to do. But we are more Powerful than the most limiting parts of ourselves and there are many tools out there.
Some of which are Gaia’s flower and plant medicine allies. Back to African Iris, she supports us in seeing that all aspects of who are and our creative process are indeed sacred, and that by weaving dark & light within ourselves we embrace our true embodied creativity.
The truth is, everyone is creative and the world needs all of us tapping into our unique creative genius NOW more then ever.
